What do you do during your lunch break?
During my undergrad, I was quite flexible to decide when to have my lunch. But there were always times when my schedule was hectic with classes, so I followed the university-set lunch break. Which was 12.50 to 2 pm.
As students, my friends and I spent our most of our lunch break to talk, eat, pray, and study. Sometimes 70 minutes were too short to do all those things, even when we skip the fun of having some small talks.
After I entered masters, obviously my schedule was the most flexible than ever. Still, I know the university (I went to different univ for my master) lunch break was at 1-2 pm. Practically, it’s just the same. And many of us are muslims, so we would spare at least 25% of the time to pray.
Now I am an employee of an MNC. My office has given us time from 12 to 1 pm for the lunch break. But prayer times are always after 1. Sometimes it’s 1.10pm, sometimes it’s 1.30. or any other time between 1 to 2pm. So after having the 60 minutes break, we would take another several minutes to pray.
I have spent my lunch hours with my new colleagues, and now this has come across my mind. What do people spend their lunch hour by?
I mean, for the muslims, they don’t have to pray.
Even muslims are not praying at 12 to 1 pm.
So what do we do?
For the past two weeks, when break came I would go with office mates to the food court. only to eat and talk.
Is that all? Is that really all?
I’m not saying we should work or something, but I did find it a little bit boring to just spend 60 minutes sitting while discussing anyone’s favourite movies or other light random stuffs.
Or maybe, I couldn’t enjoy the time because I am very new and things are still awkward for me. Colleagues are new people and most of the time I’m not sure how to pick up the conversation. I don’t know.
Anyone has a say on this?
