Various Places to Stay in Japan (2)

Before Japan, I always linked hostel dorm with dirty toilets, beers, noise, and all the uncomfortable stuffs I wanted to avoid. But due to my financial constraints, I tried to compromise this. While booking a bed to sleep in Hiroshima, I kept telling myself that I was going to be fine. LOL.

I ended up liking the dorms that I’ve visited in Fukuoka and Hiroshima. They weren’t bad at all! Even better than my hotel in Osaka! So here’s what I thought on Japanese dorm.

Hana Hostel Hiroshima

I think it’s my first dorm in Japan. Located in the city center, this hostel provides all women rooms, all men rooms, and mixed rooms. The hostel isn’t really big. And even though it’s in the centre, it took a while for us (I went there with a friend) to find the building as we had to walk into a small street and we couldn’t read Japanese.

When I entered the hostel, I became excited because I had to take off my boots and change it into a Japanese house slipper. Just like a normal Japanese house, at the entrance (after opening the door) we saw a shelf full of shoes and there was another shelf for slippers next to it.

There was a mini lobby and receptionist which was designed like a living room with coaches and small table.  We went to see the receptionist and pay (around 2,000 yen/night), then a guy came to show me the room. I booked a female-only room for 6 people.

When I went inside, the room was quite small. There were 3 bunk beds covered with curtains. The room was attached with bathroom and toilet so it’s convenient for us, especially me as I wear hijab.

Even though it’s small, but I could still find a space to pray so I prayed fajr in my room. Luckily, only two girls stayed on that night (including me) and the other girl was sleeping when I prayed so I can say I didn’t cause a problem. Oh, and they provide wifi too.

Overall this place is nice, comfortable and safe. Later on, I found on Tripzilla that this hostel is among 10 best hostel in Japan. Wow, but it deserves the award though. Congrats!
