Today our mom asked me and my siblings to clean up one of our bookshelves, the one where we keep our comics collection. It looked really messy as the neighborhood kids always come and took the books out without putting them back as it had to.
It felt nostalgic.
As a boowkworm myself, I spent my childhood with reading books. That includes the manga, of course. I grew with them. All my younger siblings took it after me, we all have our own favorites in which we share the books with each other. I clearly remember the days when dad took us out to the bookstore and let us choose what we want to buy. Sometimes when he’s got more money, each of us could get up to five books. But on some other days when he’s financially weak, we could choose 1 or 2 books.
In several occasions we even travelled out of town to visit the national bookfair (even until now we barely have book fair in our hometown, dunno why. Yeah it sucks).
And manga was a big part of our youth. Meitantei Conan, One Piece, Naruto, Rave, Kindaichi, you name it. Although we have now decided to quit buying anymore copies, we do still read them online.
So nowadays people have been asking if we want to sell our collection in a good price. Wew. It took us awhile to even anwer the question. As there will be no more mangas entering our library, these are what reminds of our imaginative childhood. If the comics are gone, there’s no more walking to the shelf to read comics in the middle of the night when we get bored. No more taking out some books when we miss reading old series of Meitantei Conan.
We’ve been saying no to those who want to buy our comics. My sister said we may need 10 years to let them go. Ha!
Anyway we’ve cleaned up the shelf now! Alhamdulillah it looks good!
